About Lesley’s Lyrical Art
I painted this picture on my 14th Birthday. ‘All things Bright and Beautiful’ seems to fit this one! I always loved flowers, they were very important in my young life
About Me
My name is Lesley Cairns Beasley, I am an artist and writer. I was born, and still live in Morpeth, Northumberland, England.
As a child I loved to draw and paint. My paintings were always colourful, I love colour! I recently found a few pictures in an old folder, that I did when I was a very young girl.
I’ve featured them here, one is called ‘A Nightmare’, and the other one must have been inspired by Picasso! (I think you can guess which one is which!). They each have a sticker on the back, which I must have intended to enter for a competition but never did. From these it’s obvious that colour has always played a big part in my journey as an artist.
As a writer, I have written songs and music for the local Sunday School, and Pantomime Society. I’m a published author of two Childrens’ Musicals, a book on School Assemblies, and a book of Wedding Verses. Currently I have a book available on Amazon called ‘A Re - Telling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet’, that I wrote in rhyme and iambic pentameter, and I painted the cover picture.
As an artist, I enjoy painting canvases and watercolours, I also enjoy creating cards for friends and family, including a personal verse for them.
I’ve painted on all sorts of surfaces, on cardboard for the scenery of a Christmas Play, and Christmas scenes on the inside of hospital windows when I was training as a nurse. In our present house, I’ve painted the stairs with my own designs (116 all-together!), and a door pane with glass paint, which gives a lovely reflection.
However the pandemic brought a time for reflection and renewal. I love to Paint, and I began making more time for painting; I’ve been creative and experimental with different mediums that I haven’t tried before; inks, crayons and gouache!
I would describe myself as a modern Lyrical Artist. I use the word ‘Lyrical’ because it fits with how I feel about my work. My paintings are an expression of how I feel in an imaginative way, that is both inspirational and I hope, beautiful!
My most recent works are in Watercolour, some with mixed media. They are painted on Arches Cotton Watercolour paper 300gr, and 185gr. Although the originals are not for sale at the moment, I do have Giclee prints of them on Cotton Etching paper, which are for sale in ‘Art Prints’.
Below are photographs of the painted stairs, that are still looking bright and colourful even after several years!. The other photograph is of the door pane. It was the first time I had used glass paint, and the design was based on the seasons of the year.
